Tactics: losing so far.
"NK Racing Press Service would like to inform you that the team pilots, Alexey Vasiliev and Nikolay Fomenko, took part in the second stage of FIA GT Championship at Silverstone track (Great Britain). The Russian pilots take part in N-GT series on PorsAhe 996. It was prepared for the race by RWS Motorsport German team.
A total of 29 cars were registered for the second stage, 15 in the GT series, and 14 in N-GT. FIA GT Championship participants had to cover 500 kilometers or 98 laps. Silverstone track is very complicated, that's why experience has particular importance for a successful performance.
Qualification drives were held on Sunday, May 3. As at the previous stage, the competition was very fierce. Every hundredth of a second of a second was important. Furthermore the British weather interfered into determination of the cars' positions on the starting grid. During the first series of the qualifications it started raining. The rain spoiled the game of many teams. TNK Racing team pilots showed goods results, but once again failed to reach the superpole. As a rule, the teams use very soft tires, which allow to show good results during 2-3 laps. That's why the tactics is very important here: to warm up the tires and to choose the right moment for best results. Alexey Vasiliev showed his best results at the wet track and during a number of laps was the fourth among N-GT series cars. But the track soon got dry and three teams managed to overtake Alexey one lap prior to the qualification end. Thus all the future superpole participants managed to conquer the dry track. As it was in France, the Russian team once again were some thirty five thousandth of a second behind. During the second qualification the Russian teams made necessary adjustments, that's why after the two qualification drives TNK Racing got the right to start with the 23rd position.
On Saturday Alexey Vasiliev started on behalf of the Russian team. Alexey once again showed an excellent start and after the third lap was the 6th among N-GT series cars. However, at the fourth lap after a "fight" with Ferrari 360 of JMB Racing team TNK Racing got into the gravel "trap" and managed to get out of it only after three laps. Thus, the Russian team competitors got an advantage of three laps. One lap earlier, the car of one of N-GT series leaders, Freisinger Motorsport, left the track. From then on the former partners (in 2001 Freisinger Motorsport (Germany) prepared TNK racing PorsAhe 996 for FIA GT Championship), who now compete against each other, faced the similar difficulties during the race. If Freisinger Motorsport team car tire tore, the same happened with the Russian team car during the next lap. When Alexey Vasiliev left the track, got his air inlets stuffed with grass, and had to drive on the pit-line, afterwards something of the kind happened to the German team. However, in spite of all the difficulties TNK Racing pilots (after one fourth of the race Nikolay Fomenko took the place of Alexey Vasiliev, and in an hour they changed back) continued catching up and fighting for the better results.
After 3 hours from the race start none of the teams managed to cover 98 laps and, in accordance with the rules, the race was stopped. Paul Belmondo Racing on Chrysler Viper GTS-R and its pilots Marc Duez and Fabio Babini were the first among GT cars with the result of 96 laps. Among N-GT cars Christian Pescatori and Andrea Montermini of JMB Racing team on Ferrari 360 Modena were the best (four laps behind the winner). The Russian team with the result of 86 laps was the 19th in GT series and the 8th in N-GT thus repeating its best result in FIA GT World Championship.
