Rene Rast and Niki Mayr-Melnhof won a spectacular wet FIA GT Series main race at Nogaro in France this afternoon, thrilling a large crowd at the traditional Coupes De Pâques meeting.

The Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi R8 LMS ultra started from 2nd position on the grid and like yesterday was embroiled in an epic fight with the Sebastien Loeb Racing McLaren MP4-12C of Sebastien Loeb and Alvaro Parente. The fight for the lead was settled when Parente touched Rast and then a retrospective penalty was given to the #9 McLaren of Loeb/Parente as the 9-time World Rally Champion was adjudged to have unbuckled his seat belts before his car came to rest at the mandatory pit stop. The McLaren rejoined and eventually finished in 6th position on the road.

Overall it was a 1-2-3 for the Belgian Audi Club Team WRT with the #13 car of Edward Sandstrom and Frank Stippler finishing a superb 2nd after starting from the back of the grid. The #11 WRT Audi of Stephane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor finished 3rd overall after two sensational late race overtakes.

Taking maximum points in the Gentlemens Trophy was the SOFREV Ferrari 458 Italia of Fabien Barthez and Gerard. The pair took the double after claiming the win in yesterday’s sprint race.
