BAS LEINDERS: "NOW WE HAVE TO SCORE"
This weekend the Marc VDS Racing Team travels to the South of France, where on the Paul Ricard track in Le Castellet it will participate in the 4th round of the FIA GT1 world championship. "Since the start of the season we have shown a lot of potential, but now it is time to turn all that into a good result", Bas Leinders states.
It's been three weeks since the Le Mans 24 Hours and things at the Gosselies workshop have been very hectic: the car damaged in Le Mans had to be replaced. "There was too much damage", Bas Leinders explains. "For safety reasons that was already the reason for our retirement and now we had to replace the car. Our mechanics did a fantastic job in a relatively short lapse of time, but we did not manage to give the new car a shakedown. Due to noise restrictions in Zolder and Mettet it is impossible for us to drive there and since Spa is the track for the 5th round of the championship, during the weekend of the 24 hours, the rules do not allow us to drive there either."
But it will be a relatively small step into the unknown for the men and women of the Marc VDS Racing Team, because they are beginning to get a thorough knowledge of their car. "In the beginning of the season we showed the potential of the car more than once", Bas Leinders continues. "But up until now we were not able to translate that into a meaningful result. The contact in Dubai, the problems with the fuel rig in Silverstone, the idiotic behaviour of that Greek driver in Brno: we've had more than our fair share of problems. So it is now high to score and get a great result!"
Maxime Martin and Bas Leinders will share the new car, while Renaud Kuppens and Markus Palttala want to perform at least as well on the second car of the team. "We've had a more linear progression", Kuppens explains. "But we want to get among the frontrunners as well, Markus and I are convinced that this car should be able to do so. We did not have the best of luck since the start of the year, but maybe our chances will turn... Furthermore, during the Spa 1000 km. the team has proven it can win a race, so now we only have to confirm that result in a race of the world championship."
After Le Castellet the Marc VDS Racing Team will return quickly to Spa, because three days later it will participate in the Test Day for the Total 24 Hours of Spa, the undeniable highlight of the season!
