Christian Montanari's trip wasn't a particularly lucky one at Oschersleben. Running in the fifth event of the FIAGT season, the driver from San Marino came home with only one point, due to an accident occurred to team-mate Miguel Ramos. Montanari, despite the 50-kg added ballast on such technical racetrack, proved to be fast since practice, and set the the 6th best time in qualifying; then, in his first stint, the No.2 Maserati climbed up to 2nd place. At that point, Ramos took the wheel, getting suddenly hit from behind by Cristophe Bouchut. The Vitaphone Racing Maserati MC12 was forced to come into the pits with a damaged rear wishbone, getting back to the track in a record 6 minute-time and scoring a 8th place in class, also thanks to the steward's after- race decisions.
Christian Montanari - Team Vitaphone
"Sometimes in racing it takes a bit of luck, and we definitely missed it at Oschersleben. Everything was running fine, until my team-mate Ramos was hit from behind by an opponent car. In the end, we managed to score one point, that's better than nothing, but our expectations were higher. We proved to be very competitive since the first practice sessions, and another podium finish was clearly in our possibilities, especially considering the penalties assessed following scrutineering. We're already looking towards the most important race of the season, scheduled for the last week of July at Spa-Francorchamps. The race will be crucial for us, since points will be awarded also at the 6-hour and 12-hour marks".
