Torrential rain curtails Pre-Qualifying
Heavy rain brought a premature end to Pre-Qualifying at Nurburgring as the weather continued to play havoc with the build-up to the sixth round of the championship.
A heavy downpour with 10 minutes of the 80-minute session brought out the red flag due to standing water on the track surface.
When the session ended, the Young Driver Aston Martin No.7 Darren Turner and Tomas Enge was top of the time sheets.
Second fastest was the No.40 Marc VDS of Bas Leinders and Maxime Martin ahead of the No.3 Swiss Racing Nissan GT-R of Karl Wendlinger and Henri Moser.
Nurburgring Pre-Qualifying: What the drivers say ...
Pre-Qualifying saw another mixed weather session with severe rain and bursts of sunshine challenging the teams. Here's what the drivers say ...
Tomas Enge, Young Driver Aston Martin No.7
"This session wasn't too bad but to be honest the whole day was all about the weather. How to cope in the wet and dry conditions; more wet than dry unfortunately but we managed to get two good dry laps in before it rained again."
"For tomorrow and for the rest of the weekend it looks like the weather will not change much. I think the weather will be playing a big part of the result for everybody but we, like everybody else, will try to make the best out of the weekend."
Christopher Haase, Reiter Lamborghini No.24
"We started with the rain tyres like everybody, we had made some changes from Free Practice this morning which saw us a little bit quicker."
"It dried out and we tried to get a few laps on the slick tyre but this wasnt possible because as soon as I left the pit it started rain."
"I think we have a reasonably good set up for the dry condition and also for the rain, but when it comes to the racing tomorrow and Sunday it all depends on when the weather happens."
Bert Longin, Triple H Maserati No.34
"I think the session went OK, we ended up in position seven. We came out at the right moment, when it was dry but we were caught out by the rain eventually."
"I think the car feels good, I drove it in the wet which wasn't easy but it seemed ok. In the dry it was even better, I felt it immediately. I'm happy."
