After a successful qualifying race for both Matech Ford GT1 on Saturday, the warm up happened on Sunday morning on a wet track. Richard Westbrook scored the best time of car no.5, finishing 4th with a lap time of 1.59.517 during lap 5th. Neel Jani finished 7 on car no.6 with a lap time of 1.59.689 at the end of the warm up session.
As for the Qualifying race, the first corner is very turbulent, at the end of the first lap, Thomas Mutsch, who had a good start with car no.5, is 4th. For Nicolas Prost, things are really different : a damaged rear tire slowed the car and lap after lap, Nicolas lost positions. He was 20th in lap 12.
For car no.5, la race is very eventful, in particular with a great battle with Clivio Piccione with his Aston Martin. This battle was out of favor of Thomas Mutsch : on the first corner of lap 6, Piccione rushed into the corner and Ricardo Zonta, driving a Lamborghini, blocked his wheels in a very late and tricky braking. He hit Thomas. Ricardo Zonta had a drive though for this but it was too late, the damage is done. Thomas was 16th in lap 7.
The pit stop happened without any problem for both Matech cars. Richard Westbrook came back again on track and overtook lap after lap. But during the 27th lap, he had a drive though for unbalancing a competitor during an overtaking. Matech Ford GT1 no.5 crossed the line on p13.
Neel Jani did his best to rise up positions but he finished the race in p16. Leaving Nurburgring with a lot of regrets because the podium was close, Matech Competition will go to Portimão racetrack on September 18th and 19th for two races full of emotions.

Thomas Mutsch : "I had a very good start and had the tyres up to temperature quickly. I was quite okay, but we were missing a lot of top speed, that was our biggest problem. I had to fight a little bit to keep the position and then on lap 6 the Lamborghini hit me. Everything was okay with the car but what can you do if somebody is coming with 2 locked front wheels into you? It's just stupid because they also going for the championship...not much else to say"
Richard Westbrook : "The race promised so much and delivered so little for us. Thomas was doing a great race and someone mis-timed their braking and spun him off so the race was pretty much finished from there. I was stuck behind a few cars but made up a few places...I went past a Nissan and he didn't see me on the inside, he spun round and then Bernoldi got back past me who I had already overtaken before...then he just started doing some crazy things trying to defend going into the Mercedes Arena...and he just stopped the car in front leaving me no where to go...we touched and I got a drive through penalty. We've had our race wrecked by people bumping into us and then we get a penalty. At least we lost our 40Kg. We know we're quick, but we just need a bit more speed down the straights and a bit more luck.

Neel Jani : "It's a bad day today, really bad day because after starting 8, I was expecting for a Top 5 result. Unfortunately, Nicolas suffered some problems and he felt back to 20th and I was little bit unfortunate because from then we didn't have chances anymore to go forward. I could move the car up to 16th and then to 17th. But we were out of points so I just tried to push hard and not to damage the car because, I didn't want to damage more. I'm very disappointing day because I was really hoping for a Top 5 today."
Nicolas Prost : "From the very first start, one of my tires started being destroyed. We can see some pieces of gum are missing so there was nothing to do with a tire like this one. We have to find an explication because the 3 others were good. It's really a pity because we were expecting a good result, but unfortunately it was impossible to do something. I was stopped without any grip on the right rear wheel."
