SRT make it three out of three in Monza!

MONZA. Tom Cloet and Mauro Casadei clinched the season's third victory for SRT at Monza. The Italian-Belgian combination had a spotless weekend in their Corvette C5-R and after an exciting race Cloet and Casadei were the first to take the chequered flag "I'm really very pleased to be on the top rung of the podium once again", a smiling Patrick Selleslagh commented after the race. "The entire team has been working at top level all season and the results are there to prove it. Both here in the FIA GT Citation Cup, as also in the French FFSA-GT championship we're always up amongst the top and we're scoring good results. It wasn't easy this weekend, the Ferrari with the electronic restrictor was exceptionally fast and we had to battle it out right through to the last few meters." SRT is now heading off to the FIA-GT test day in Spa, for the final preparations in view of the 24 Hours of Spa at the end of July.

During free practice and the qualifying sessions it was soon apparent that SRT wouldn't have it all their own way in clinching victory. "Just like in Bucharest and Silverstone we had to fight, but here it was exceptional." Patrick Selleslagh explained. "The difference in speed with the Ferraris was enormous and on top of that we had a double premiere. Tom Cloet did not know this circuit and had never driven on such a fast type of circuit, and as for Mauro Casadei the Corvette was totally new to him. In spite of all this the free practice sessions continuously improved. We were able to reduce the difference with the leaders continually and in the qualifying session we finally ended up in fourth place."

It was Mauro Casasdei who took the honours in front of a home crowd to produce a fast lap and as such also take the start of the race. "I took a careful start, the first chicane at Monza is a killer, and in every race there's always someone who can forget scoring any decent results. After that I settled in behind the Ferrari and thanks to a perfect team strategy and perfectly executed pitstops we were able to contain the difference with the Maranello car" the bland Italian told us after the race.

Tom Cloet took over the wheel and had some luck when the leading car made a mistake. "We might still have been able to make up the difference on the track, but this time luck was on our side. We have clinched the third victory in a row, and have obviously strengthened our position in the championship. Aucott and Macari were second once again and are breathing down our neck. But that makes it all the more exciting doesn't it....." Tom Cloet the racing entrepreneur jokes.
