FIA GT Championship - Round 3 - Magny-Cours
GT Race Winner : Michael Bartels - nr 5 Vitaphone Racing Team Saleen S7: "It's great to finally see the chequered flag after two very disappointing races. The car was quick again, and this time we could actually make use of that. I think we did a quite good job. I'd really like to thank Pirelli for all their hard work. I think I've never driven a car which keeps its tyre performance on such a high level over the distance. The team also did a great job, because we spent the last ten days between Valencia and here to check the car to finally come through the three our race, and it paid out! I'm looking forward to our next race in Hockenheim. It's our home track. We'd like to repeat this result then, of course, but it won't be easy because of the ballast we will be carrying."
GT Race Winner : Uwe Alzen - nr 5 Vitaphone Racing Team Saleen S7: "I can only thank the team for their great work - it's a great result for them and should help to build up motivation for the next races. Pirelli has also done a great job. It was especially important for them to be in front of Michelin. Our race was perfect from the beginning. We didn't encounter any problems whatsoever. I just hope we'll be equally lucky for the next races - especially our home race in Hockenheim. Then we can tackle the Championship."
2nd in GT : Karl Wendlinger - nr 17 JMB Racing Ferrari 575 M Maranello : "The whole first stint was really good. The handling of the car worked well, the tyre performance was constant over the distance and both the set-up and the engine were very good. We're definitely on the right path. We're closer to the leaders than we have ever been before."
2nd in GT : Toto Wolff - nr 17 JMB Racing Ferrari 575 M Maranello : "That was certainly an interesting stint. There was a little problem with one of the BMS cars, which went off and came back to the track right in front of me. I had to go into the gravel to avoid hitting it. Luckily, our car did not get stuck there. I was also struggling a bit with the brakes. But I'm really happy with the podium result! It's fantastic to be driving in GT this season. When you're driving in N-GT, as I've done during the last few years, you're always looking up to the GT drivers a bit - and now I'm there as well."
2nd in GT : Robert Lechner - nr 17 JMB Racing Ferrari 575 M Maranello :: "It feels great to be on the podium. It's good for me to finally catch up a bit with my brother and get my face known too. I have to thank the team, who've been working really hard and did a great job. I hope there'll be many more podiums and many more press conferences for me. I think we should be able to even improve our performance - and then we'll be right up there!"
3rd in GT : Fabrizio Gollin - nr 2 BMS Scuderia Ferrari 550 Maranello: "I had a good race, with a lot of pressure by the Saleen for about 15 minutes towards the end. It was very fast and I just couldn't hold it off any more - I tried to close the door but couldn't. It was only when Lechner made his move that I saw the big problem he had with his bodywork."
4th in GT : Matteo Bobbi - nr 1 BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 Maranello : "The first stint was really good. I had an interesting fight with Karl Wendlinger. Then I had a problem with the tyres and I slowed down a bit and just tried to hold my position. The in the second stint, Gabriele was very fast compared to Cappellari and he tried to overtake him, but he closed the door. It's a racing accident, but of course it's not good because we're in the same team. The last stint was really difficult for me because the first gear was broken and I could only use second, which meant I lost quite a lot of time. Over the last ten or eleven laps I also had some problems with the brakes. But overall, it was quite a good race."
4th in GT : Gabriele Gardel - nr 1 BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 550 Maranello: "That's racing - such things just happen, even though it's a shame when it happens with your teammate. But it's been a good race for us, otherwise. Both the car and the Michelin tyres have been very constant."
5th in GT : Walter Lechner Jr - nr 4 Konrad Motorsport Saleen S7: "I was pushing so hard during the last stint and then one of the stones that was lying on the track hit us really hard and the car literally just fell apart. The first stint went race well - even though I don't understand why the pole setter has to start from the right side of the track, which gave us little chance to maintain our position at the start. But we were going very well at the beginning, driving good lap times. The pit stop wasn't really optimal, though, and Toni was a bit off the mark today. He was just not the Toni we knew from Valencia. He lost a lot of time - and I couldn't make up for that, even though I was giving my all during the last stint. The car was literally undriveable, and I still kept pushing."
6th in GT : Fabio Babini - nr 11 GPC Giesse Ferrari 575 M Maranello : "We started well, and I did a good stint. We were aiming to do a double stint with the tyres at the end, so I went out on the tyres Philipp Peter had used. I was lying third after two hours, but I drove over something and the front splitter broke, giving us a lot of vibration and understeer. The car was very low. So I had to do the whole of the last hour like that, and it was very difficult to drive, but it was very important for us to finish the race. I am pleased with the points, which is a much better result than Valencia."
Race Winner - N-GT : Sascha Maassen - nr 99 Freisinger Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS : "Lucas made a very good start and was able to overtake the Ferrari right away. We had a very good pit stop when I when into the car, and I had a lead of about 14 seconds, I think. I was able to improve that. I pushed very hard at the beginning until we had close to 24 seconds. Then we were equally quick and we maintained our positions. We had no problems with the car. It was a very good race for me!"
Race Winner - N-GT : Lucas Luhr - nr 99 Freisinger Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS: "I lost some time being stuck behind one of the GT cars during my first stint. Obviously that car was much quicker on the straights, but in the corners and the breaking zones, he held me up a little bit. Finally, the driver realized that he was in my way and he let me pass. I had a well-balanced car from the start. As Sascha said, I was able to overtake the Ferrari right in the first corner and could pull away a bit afterwards without really risking anything. Then Sascha went into the car and improved our advantage again. By this stage, it already looked promising. In my last stint, I could actually push even harder because the car was better balanced with the second set of tyres. Overall, it's a fantastic weekend for Freisinger. We finished first, second and third - it's perfect!"
2nd in N-GT - Stephane Ortelli - nr 50 Freisinger Yukos Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS : "That was a very exciting race. I've had a great fight with Christian. I was trying to overtake him in the slow corners and he was breaking as late as possible, even blocking me a bit. But it was a fair, good fight. I could finally get past him in the chicane. Basically, the race was perfect. We didn't make any mistakes. Unfortunately, we lost about ten seconds during the last pit stop. This is now the third time in a row I finished second. I'm not disappointed at all. It's Freisinger's first one-two-three victory, and that's a great thing."
2nd in N-GT - Emmanuel Collard - nr 50 Freisinger Yukos Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS: "Unfortunately, I had some problems with traffic out there on the track. I lost nearly ten seconds behind a Viper. I'm a bit angry about that. I could overtake it eventually, but by then it was already too late and we'd lost plenty of time. The car has been perfect, though, and I'm very happy with the race result. We're still leading to the championship. It's a good thing for us that Ferrari is not among the top three here. I hope we can do the same job and beat the other car next race, even though we'll have to carry more weight by then."
3rd in N-GT - Nikolaj Fomenko - nr 77 Freisinger Yukos Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS Nikolai Fomenko: "Many thanks to Freisinger Yukos Motorsport. It's a great team, a great car and great tyres. So basically, all the components for winners are there, and today's one-two-three podium is giving prove to that. "
3rd in N-GT - Alexei Vasiliev- nr 77 Freisinger Yukos Motorsport Porsche 996 GT3-RS: "I'm very happy for our team. We had a few problems with some electrical components before the start, the automatic gear shift didn't work. But in the end, we were lucky and made it to the podium after all. Next race will be in Germany, which is basically Porsche country. So I hope we will be able to come away with the same result in Hockenheim as well."
4th in N-GT - Christian Ried - Proton Competition Porsche 996 : "It went all right for us. Actually, there were no problems whatsoever. The car was good, the track was good, the weather was good - we can't complain. Of course, a podium would have been great, but fourth position was the best result that was possible with our car. We couldn't have gone any faster than that."
DNF : nr 59 Jens Petersen - Jens Petersen Motorsport Porsche : "Luck wasn't on our side today. We were just a stone's throw away from seeing the chequered flag - literally. A stone hit our cooling and we were out of the race. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves a lot and are now looking forward to the next race at Hockenheim. We're not too disappointed, to be honest. It went very well until we were forced to retire. And the car isn't damaged too much, our drivers had fun - that's everything you can hope for in your first race!"
