More points for Derbyshire

Jamie Derbyshire racked up more points in the international FIA GT Championship race at Magny Cours despite picking up a puncture and his co-driver Jamie Campbell-Walter suffering a power steering failure in the last half hour of the race.

The locally-based driver is in his first season of international racing and is steadily gathering experience against the likes of former Grand Prix drivers Karl Wendlinger, who was second in his Ferrari, and Emanuele Naspetti. Derbyshire and Campbell-Walter eventually finished seventh overall in their Spirit Volkswagen-backed Lister Storm GT car.

"I went out on Jamie's set of tyres from the first stint to save time in the pits," said Derbyshire, who would have had to wait until refuelling had finished before his team would be allowed to change tyres.

"During the last couple of laps of my stint the tyres had really lost their grip, and we had already worked out that the fastest race strategy would be for me to short-stint and Jamie to take over until the end of the race.

"Everything was going according to plan, but then Jamie picked up a puncture and we had a power steering problem. I went out in seventh and came back in eighth position."

The race was won by Uwe Alzen and Michael Bartels in their Saleen S7R, 38 seconds ahead of the Ferrari 575 of Austrians Karl Wendlinger, Toto Wolff and Robert Lechner.
