Northamptonshire's Jamie Derbyshire failed to take to the track during the latest round of the FIA GT Championship at Imola at the weekend when a component failure halted the Creation Autosport Team's Lister Storm on the opening lap.

An input shaft failure meant that the three hour race lasted just a few hundred yards for the Spirit Volkswagen Fleet Sales backed team, leaving Derbyshire on the sidelines in what would have been his final European race this season.

The Creation team will be missing the final European round of the championship as it will be taking its prototype Le Mans car to the final two rounds of the American Le Mans Series in the USA, which clashes with the FIA GT calendar.

However, Derbyshire will be back behind the wheel of the Lister Storm in October, when the team returns to the FIA series at the brand new circuit in Dubai in the Middle East.

"It's a shame that we didn't have a fair crack at Imola this weekend," said Derbyshire. "But that's racing. The team need to have all of its personnel over in the US for the two American Le Mans races as the car they have could prove to be very competitive over there.

"I can't wait to see how the team gets on over there and it will be great to get back behind the wheel in Dubai again too. Hopefully we can finish the season off with a good result on a brand new track to all the teams," he added.
