Fischer Racing set for second season in FIA GT3
Nygaard/Eskelinen spearhead Fischer Racing European assault
Fischer Racing is set for a second season with the iconic Ford GT in the FIA GT3-European championship. The 2010 FIA GT3-European Championship starts this weekend at the Formula One track in Silverstone (GB) into the new season. One of the two Fischer Racing-Ford GT will be driven in the 12-race championship by "Young Driver" Christoffer Nygaard (23, Denmark) and Mikko Eskelinen (37, Finland). Fischer racing is only team that campaigns the legendary Ford GT, the most successful car in the FIA GT3-European Championship, in this years championship.
Last year the FIA GT3 European Championship started successful for Fischer Racing in Silverstone. In his first race with the Ford GT one year ago, Nygaard drove to a strong fourth place. The young Dane finished fifth in the drivers championship at the end of the season, scoring one victory and another two podium finishes. Nygaard is eager to continue that success in this years season, when forming a Scandinavian duo with Mikko Eskelinen. Nygaard/Eskelinen already celebrated a first success last autumn, the Scandinavian-Duo when the won the GT-class outright in their first common race in France.
While Nygaard already starts into his second season with the Fischer Racing-Ford GT, and also races in the GT1-World Championship in an Aston Martin DBR9 of Fischer Racings sister team Young Driver AMR, Eskelinen also collected experience in GT3 sportscars. In the last year Eskelinen raced successful in the national Finnish GT3 championship. Although Nygaard raced in the Ford GT already last year at Silverstone, he can only partly use his experience: The traditional British track was modernized during the recent month. A new track layout, the „Arena Circuit" built for Formula One, will be used for first time this weekend for an international racing series.
After an intensive test program in recent month, which led Fischer Racing to Le Castellet, Brno and Dijon, the German team is well prepared for the new season. „We are quite optimistic about our second season in the FIA GT3-European championship"says team principal Hardy Fischer. „We collected a lot of experience last year and our drivers travel to Silverstone well prepared. Christoffer (Nygaard) has one-year experience in our Ford under his belt, and Mikko (Eskelinen) has done several tests with our car in recent month. Our first race in Europe this year will be very big challenge for our entire team, as we will start with two Ford GT in die FIA GT3-European Championship and enter also two Aston Martin DBR9 with Young Driver AMR in the GT1 World Championship." The drivers of the second Fischer Racing-Ford GT are not confirmed yet.
The Fischer Racing-Ford GT will be faced with strong opposition of around 35 competitors of eight different prestigious brands like Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Audi und BMW. In 2010 12 races at six events are scheduled all across Europe.
