MARC VDS READY FOR ZOLDER
Next weekend, the final races of the European championship GT3 will take place in Zolder. Under no circumstances the Marc VDS Racing Team wanted to miss their home race and that's why the two Fords GT3 already seen in action during the Portimao event a couple of weeks ago will drive again, in the hands of the same driver pairings: Maxime Martin and French driver Gael Lesoudier, and Eric De Doncker together with the Swiss youngster Mathias Beche.
The Belgian track of Zolder will host the final of the European championship GT3. For the Marc VDS Racing Team an excellent opportunity to perform in front of their home crowd. Furthermore, partners and other guests of the Belgian team will be able to drive a couple of laps of the Zolder track next Friday, in the Ford GT1 2009 and Ford Mustang GT4, which will be driven by the drivers of the team.
During the weekend the Fords GT3 #98 and #99 will defend the Belgian colours in the hands of Eric De Doncker and Swiss driver Mathias Beche in one car and Maxime Martin and Frenchman Gael Lesoudier in the other. Both teams worked together well during the races in Portimao, so it is only logical that the team uses their services again.
"I am very happy that the Marc VDS Racing Team continues to put its faith in me", 24-year old Mathias Beche states. After starting his career in karting and single-seaters, the Swiss youngster chose to drive prototypes and GT's two seasons ago. "I am delighted to drive for them again, especially during these final races in Belgium. Portimao was my first race in GT3 and I want to use that experience to perform well in Zolder. The track is completely new to me, but in the past I never had any problems in learning new tracks quite quickly. That will certainly not be the case in Zolder, since I can always ask my teammate Eric for advice, and he knows this track like the back of his hand."
Gael Lesoudier (40) already drove in Zolder last year, when he and Maxime Martin shared a Morgan. "I remember it being very... wet", the French driver smiles. "As was often the case, Maxime set the fastest lap of the race, I must have the 3rd or 4th time, if memory serves me well. After last season, too often marred by technical problems on the Morgan, Maxime and I kept in touch. Obviously, I am very happy that I can rely on his racing experience, because I only drive occasionally. Maxime and I have the same way of driving a car, which is very important in determining the set-up of the car. But Maxime has also understood that this is a team race. He is not only very fast, but he always hands me a racing car in perfect working order at the beginning of my stint. It is very pleasing to race in those circumstances. I also got to know the Ford GT3, a very different car compared to the Mustang, in the best possible conditions. I must admit that I am very impressed by the professionalism of this team, and they always seem to be in a good mood! As I said, it's a pleasure to drive in these circumstances..."
Pleasure is a good thing, but that does not mean that the Marc VDS Racing Team is in Zolder to make up the numbers. They are determined to finish on the rostrum!
