British independent racing team Graham Nash Motorsport (GNM) is looking for a strong showing in front of its home fans, as the FIA GT Championship drives into Donington Park this weekend. Expectations are high as the fast-paced Brazilian Thomas Erdos, who has qualified in the top five in two of the four rounds to date, returns to the track where he secured last season's British GT Championship.
With its duo of Saleen S7-Rs - the No7 car of Erdos and Newton and No8 car of Amorim, Chaves and Ramos - GNM is keen to build on its strong showing at the recent Le Mans 24 Hour race where, despite driver illness and a crankshaft failure, an all FIA GT driver line-up clinched 6th place in the GTS class, 22nd overall.
Said team manager, Gordon Davies:"After the drama and success of Le Mans we are really looking forward to competing on our home soil. Donington Park has to be one of the most testing circuits in the calendar with the sweeping downhill left/right of the tight Craner curves a key feature, but it holds no fear for lead driver Tommy whose sheer pace shone through in last year's British GT Championship - which he won for GNM with co-driver Ian McKellar Jnr - as he posted a pole position and finished the race in second."
Erdos has recovered well from the viral infection and dehydration that cut short his Le Mans appearance. In the No 8 car Miguel Ramos has also been pronounced fit by doctors to resume racing in the FIA GT Championship following a leg operation which kept him out of the Le Mans line-up.
Commented Davies: "We are currently poised in sixth place in the FIA GT team standings - just one point shy of the Roos Optima Racing Team with their Viper GTS-Rs - a position, which we are confident we will be able to better at Donington as we put in a determined challenge with a re-junvenated Erdos leading the charge."
