Scuderia Playteam Sarafree takes second place

Saturday, September 08, 2007 - It was an exceptional two-hour night race at the Italian Adria International Raceway on the shortest track of the season. The race saw a good start for both Scuderia Playteam Sarafree. Maserati nr 11 started from eighth position on the grid and Bertolini/Piccini took an amazing podium finish in second place.

The nr 11 Scuderia Playteam Maserati has 25 kg handicap and an additional 25kg was decided from the GT bureau for all the Maserati MC 12 cars competing in the race starting at sunset and finishing in the dark, on a completely floodlit track.

As both Bertolini and Pier Guidi started the race, they progressed up the order consistently. By lap 11 both cars had won one position and on lap 18, two. On lap 29, Bertolini was running in fifth place and by lap 35 was up to fourth, and up to third again by lap 36 behind Wendlinger and Montanari.

In car nr 12 Giambattista Giannoccaro had to make two additional pit stops after a problem with the gearbox forced him to slow down and the car was losing positions.

"The team strategy was for us to be able to pit early," explained Pier Guidi. "We were enjoying a competitive race until we had the mechanical problem which is a real shame."

Giambattista Giannocaro commented, "The problem with the gearbox was very disappointing and a few laps later I had to retire. We had high hopes for the race and a strong strategy so it is a big shame to have a mechanical problem. In anycase today we reached a positive result as the championship that was really close is re-opened with these eight additional points."

Andrea Bertolini commented, "We pitted late, on lap 41. We had a very strong car for the race and the strategy worked well, allowing us to consistently make our way up the order. At the end everything worked well. I would like to thank the team for performing such a good pit work. The week end has been perfect.!"

Andrea Piccini added, "The car felt very good on track and it was very enjoyable making our way up the order and onto the podium. The team has worked hard all weekend so it is great to reward everyone with a podium. I had a moment on lap 45 when the car almost got away from me, after my contact with Login, but apart from that we had everything under control."
