Akhil Rabindra secured a podium finish in his class during the opening round of British GT championship at Oulton Park.
Rabindra (teammate Dean Macdonald) was driving for the #59 Garage 59 squad in the Silver GT4 class, having made a permanent switch to sportscar racing.
He finished seventh in both practice sessions, before qualifying sixth in class and 18th overall (GT3 + GT4) on Saturday.
Damp first race
The first race took place in damp conditions, with Macdonald behind the wheels of the McLaren 570S GT4 in the first stint.
Macdonald gained two places on the first lap and made further ground, before losing out to the #42 Bentley just before the pit window opened.
The team apparently had a slow stop, which meant that Rabindra emerged outside the top 20 in the overall standings.
However, the Indian managed to partially recover from the setback, finishing sixth in Silver Cup and 12th among all GT4 runners.
Track-Club claimed victory in the GT4 category with the same McLaren 570S, with HHC Motorsport and PMW Expo racing putting a pair of Ginetta G55s on the podium.
Podium in second race
The second race of the weekend was much more fruitful for the Indo-Scottish duo, with Rabindra taking the start and gaining two places in the opening few laps.
A late penalty for two rivals also worked their way, elevating Rabindra and Macdonald to third in class and fifth in the among all GT4 drivers.
Rabindra’s former British F3 team Lanan Racing won the overall GT4 category, with IN2 Racing and PMW Expo occupying the other two spots on the podium.
