Williams wins Easson award, to make her Rally GB debut
Rapid female rally driver Sara Williams has won the John Easson Award after going head to head with some of the top young rally drivers in the UK and being selected by a top judging panel as the most deserving recipient of this prestigious award. The 21 year old Brecon based driver was selected for the award just one week before she makes her Wales Rally GB debut.
Sara has been recognized as one of the top young drivers in the country ever since making her four wheel drive debut in 2009 and, after making the switch to a Brecon Motors / Brecon Car Rentals supported Subaru Impreza N12b earlier this year, her pace has increased dramatically. Her prize for winning the John Easson award is a financial input into her rallying programme for next year.
To win this prestigious award is amazing. When I was selected for the final interview and saw the talented drivers that I was going up against, that alone was a huge honour for me. To have my efforts realized by the judges is massive, and a big credit to those who have supported and assisted me through the years!
Next week I will contest the National section of Wales Rally GB, my home round of the World Rally Championship, for the first time, but the confidence I have now after winning this award will help me maintain my focus for next weekend. The conditions will be tricky but I'll give it my best and hope to do everyone proud!
Sara will be co-driven by Patrick Walsh on this weekends rally. The National section runs between the two runs of the International Rally on both Saturday and Sunday and this will be the first time that Sara will have the opportunity to compare her times against the best drivers in the world!
