Higgins seeks a Skoda Trophy on the Manx.
ProSpeed Motorsport are delighted to announce that Manx rallying legend Mark Higgins will contest next week's Manx International Rally behind the wheel of their latest Skoda Octavia WRC Evo3.
The 1997 British Rally Champion will make a welcome return to the Kwik-Fit British Rally Championship, and will be looking to repeat his fine win of 2002, where he won the rally in a Toyota Corolla WRC. The ProSpeed Motorsport run Skoda will be making its tarmac debut within the British Isles on the rally.
The Forest Experience Rally School and Pirelli backed Manxman will be partnered by Motorsport Travel boss Craig Thorley for the classic tarmac rally, and the duo are excited at the prospect of giving the ex-Toni Gardemeister 'works' car its British Rally Championship debut. The Skoda remains in 2003 'works' specification and Higgins will be looking to take the fight to a number of quality drivers who have entered the rally.
ProSpeed Motorsport were delighted to be able to put a deal together, after recently taking delivery of four Skoda Octavia WRC's. Higgins will be heading to the Island to win, and the team are looking forward to being able to work closely with the Manxman to optimise the set up of the Skoda for the bumpy Manx country lanes.
Higgins, winner of the rally several times before, was excited at the prospect of teaming up with ProSpeed Motorsport for the first time:
"It will be the first time for me in the Skoda, and hopefully it will be a good rally for the whole team. The car is obviously in a very high specification, and is also well known for being a stable car. That will certainly help on the Manx, and I'm sure that I can give the team plenty of very useful feedback as they continue to learn about the Octavia's. I was unable to contest the rally last year, so I'm really fired up to give it a good go this season. Hopefully, with a clear run, we can be in contention for another win, and we'll certainly be trying hard to achieve that aim".
ProSpeed Motorsport, based near York, were also delighted to have the chance to work with the ex-Nissan and VW works driver, and see the opportunity to team up with Higgins as a valuable chance to learn from an excellent test driver:
"We're very much looking forward to having Mark sit in the car with us" said ProSpeed MD Olly Marshall. "Its an excellent chance to test out the car on tarmac, and there is a great deal to be learned from having Mark with our team for the week. We know that Mark is keen to push very hard and go for the win, and our aim is to supply the best possible works specification car that we can to him. Mark is clearly good enough to win the rally outright given his local knowledge and experience of World Rally Cars, so we are both confident and excited by the prospect of Mark giving us a Skoda WRC debut in the British Rally Championship."
The Manx International Rally begins on Thursday July 29th, with two and a half days of all action tarmac rallying planned for the motorsport mad Isle before finishing on the Saturday afternoon. Higgins will be pushed hard all the way by the likes of current British Rally Champion Jonny Milner, Austin McHale and many other drivers keen to do well on the Island roads.
