Jim Clark tarmac test next for Kenny and Gwynn
Nick Kenny and George Gwynn, whose combined age of 43 makes them the youngest team in the British Rally Championship, are more than happy with their result on the Pirelli International Rally, and as such head north to Kelso in confident spirits for round 2 of the 2007 Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship.
Nick, who has limited knowledge of the BRC, and George, who was making pacenotes for the first time, built up their pace throughout the weekend. After ending the opening leg just outside the top 10 the pair pushed their Safe Financials and Telford Glass and Glazing backed Subaru Impreza a bit harder on Saturday and climbed up the leader board with a faultless run to sixth overall and second in class when they returned to Carlisle for the finish on Saturday afternoon.
The pair have been preparing for the Jim Clark Rally by conducting a tarmac test session under the expert guidance of Geoff Jones, whose company Geoff Jones Motorsport runs the car. The duo have also spent time together working on their pacenotes in an effort to gain more confidence ahead of the recce. With this level of pre event preparation Nick is confident of a solid run on the Jim Clark Rally. I don't have a lot of tarmac experience but since Geoff has been assisting me develop my skills my confidence has grown so now I am really looking forward to the Jim Clark Rally.
George is also looking forward to his return to the Kelso based event. Last year he co-drove 'stars of the future' contender Mark Gamble to second in class on this tricky rally and is confident that he can draw on this experience this year.
I had a really good run on the Jim Clark last year, and with Nick and me working together on our notes I reckon we should have a lot more confidence this weekend.
Following their strong result on the season opener the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Subaru has attracted a new sponsor in the form of K-motion Tyres and will be sporting a new colour scheme this weekend.
The 2007 Jim Clark Rally begins with 2 short spectator stages on Friday night, followed by two long and intense days of rallying along closed public rounds around the home of Jim Clark, in South Scotland. The ceremonial finish is on Sunday afternoon, back in Kelso.
