Leading Peugeot Super 106 Cup contenders Daniel and Clive Dunbabin had a day of mixed fortune on Saturday's Winter Stages Rally held on the slippery Sweet Lamb forest roads in Mid Wales.

The brothers from Warrington were lying an excellent 4th overall after the morning loop of stages, but the elation was short lived as an electrical problem pushed the crew outside of their time limit, and they had to withdraw from the event.

The Cheshire crew had entered the event as a final shakedown and test before the Rally of Wales in March, and with a number of leading Peugeot Super 106 contenders also using the rally for some match practice, Daniel was pleased with their morning performance:

"It's frustrating to have to retire, but at the same time, we came to this event to see how our stage times compared with some of our rivals for the year ahead.

After 3 stages, we were fourth overall, and taking time out of the other 106 drivers. I was confident that I could have attained a podium finish by the end of the day until we had a problem."

Immediately after the rally, the crew and car returned to their workshops to begin checking and re-checking the car in readiness for the first round of the Peugeot Super 106 Cup, starting from Wrexham on March 10th.

With a works supported drive in a Peugeot 206 Kit Car on offer for the series winner, the brother's will start round one in confident mood after proving their pace in the Welsh stages on their two test outings this year.
