Jim Clark nets another class win for Howard
Young Alan Howard backed up his Pirelli 'Stars of the Future' Rally class win with a second class win in a row and went one better by finishing 4th overall on this weekends Jim Clark Rally, round 3 of the 2006 'Stars of the Future' Rally Championship.
Alan, who is more at home on tarmac, had been relishing the opportunity to complete the recce and modify the notes more to his liking. A conservative first stage saw the young lad from Manchester languishing down in 11th place, obviously caught out by the pace of those ahead of him. He gradually upped his pace throughout the day and admitted to thoroughly enjoying himself. We loved this rally. The car performed faultlessly and everything went according to plan. I need to do some work on the suspension but otherwise I'm very happy with the set up.
By the half way mark Alan had hauled his little Tescos/ Greenenergy supported Suzuki Swift up to 7th overall and by playing the consistency key as others suffered reliability problems, as well as setting some top 4 stage times he was able to move up to 4th overall by the time the cars arrived back in Kelso at the end of a tough day of rallying.
With his second class win on the trot Alan is now confident as the series heads to the Isle of Man for round 4. 2 great results in a row have done my confidence the world of good. Considering my car is virtually standard I am very pleased with how the event went. Now we must prepare for the Isle of Man, which will be another new event for me.
