United States Navy to Christen Newest Addition to Fleet
On Thursday, May 29th at the Stan Sayers Memorial Pits at Lake Washington, the United States Navy christens it's latest vessel--the U-50 "Spirit of the Navy" Unlimited Hydroplane.
Christening ceremonies will take place at 11:00, followed by testing until 2:00 on the Ted Jones race course on Lake Washington. The public is invited.
The "Spirit of the Navy" project is a joint effort between the United States Navy and Go Fast, Turn Left Racing, to honor the men and women of the armed forces all over the world. Painted in a scheme similar to the Navy's Flight Demonstration Team the Blue Angels, the U-50 will spend the summer of 2008 on the American Boat Racing Association' s hydroplane tour, as well as making appearances at festivals and events in the Pacific Northwest.
Albert Lee Appliances, who will sponsor the "Spirit of the Navy" at the Tri-Cities Lamb Weston Columbia Cup, and Chevrolet Cup at Seafair this summer, will be on hand to cook and serve free hot dogs and hamburgers to all spectators and visitors.
