Team 26 stuns the P1 world with maiden Supersport Win

British-based Supersport squad Team 26 has today clinched a sensational maiden victory in Malta, coming from the back of the field to win the first race of the 2009 Powerboat P1 World Championship in breathtaking style.

The team led by Pilot and Team Principal Dan Cramphorn and Throttleman Kim Collins only just made it to yesterday's PowerPole due to last minute technical problems in Friday's practice which effectively meant they completed the PowerPole course blind. These problems made today's unexpected victory even more astonishing.

This weekend's Maltese Grand Prix of the Sea is only Team 26's third ever race meeting in the Powerboat P1 World Championship after two successful wildcard entries last season. The rookie team's win in Valetta this afternoon has taken the P1 paddock by storm, with the second race of this weekend's enthralling season-opening event taking place tomorrow.

Pilot and Team Principal of Team 26, Dan Cramphorn said of the win:

"We are over the moon! We had high expectations for this race but with the technical problems we experienced during yesterday's practice we only just made it into the PowerPole and never dreamed of winning this race. Starting from the back of the field we quickly progressed to fourth place and from there moved up to third with a lucky break as Seagull spun around. It really was cut throat out there with so many boats on the water as two classes, the Supersport and Evolution, competed at once. I would like to thank our fans for their support during the preparation for this race and also AKUMA Sports for ensuring the team appeared stylish at all times. Just like Jenson Button did for Brawn GP in F1, we were the under dogs and I am proud to say we also took first place."

Team 26 is still without a title sponsor, but today's victory promises to attract renewed attention and interest. An exclusive association with a winning team and in a unique fast-paced, glamorous championship would benefit a brand hugely and give sizeable media exposure and clutter free branding. With one victory under their belts already, there has been no better time for a tie-in with Team 26. Don't miss the boat!
