6/26/2008 - Sunny Isles Beach was a huge Success June 2008
The Sunny Isles Beach mega event proved to be everything that we expected and then some. It was four days of non stop action and excitement from dawn to dark.
If you missed it this year, don't let that happen again next year as this event has the potential to grow into the East Coast's premier offshore racing venue.
Having the Race Village in Haulover Park, just inside of the inlet and directly across from the race course allowed teams and fans to take a short walk from the cranes to the course. Plus Sunny Isles Beach has the most modern feel of any city in south Florida. It really is a special location that we hope to return to for many years to come.
Don't miss the next one!
OSS Racing Action
The Sunday races were action packed as the OSS teams scorched the water along the beaches.
Side by side battles, boats rolling over, and sizzling speeds made for very exciting afternoon of racing. The full results can be found at www.offshoresuperseries.com/results.cam.
In honor of Don Aronow
This weekend came together in order to pay tribute to Don Aronow. Don's son Michael was on hand to meet some old friends and make a few hundred new ones.
And the winners are....
The HORBA run to Bimimi and back may not have been much of a spectator event but it sure was the ultimate participant event. The teams had to dodge everything from a submarine to cruise ships. It was a true open water racing experience, just what the teams came for.
The overall winner was Larry Goldman and Gino Garguilo in the Mercedes Boat with a time of 1 hour and 44 seconds to make the 106 mile crossing at an average speed of about 105 MPH.
Congratulations to all of the participants.
Super Lite Tunnels Rock
For the first time, OSS teamed up with the Super Lite Tunnel racers in order to give beach side fans a full afternoon of racing. Look for these wild racers to be at more OSS events throughout this summer and into the future. They are fun to watch and a great mix with their offshore big brothers.
Add to the mix a Poker Run to Key Largo with the Florida Powerboat Club and it was a full weekend of fun and excitement that can't be compared to any other event in the United States. ( www.offshoresuperseries.com )
