Oklahoma Racer Looks to Extend Streak at Home
August 16, 2001 (Austin, TX) --- Top Alcohol Hydro racer Tim Stokes, of Eufaula, is glad to be heading home. Heading into the 6th annual IHBA Mid-America Summer Nationals August 25-26, in Chouteau, Oklahoma, Stokes is riding a hot streak. Coming off a national event win in Marble Falls, Texas and a runner-up finish in High Point, North Carolina, the Eufaula resident is looking to gain ground towards a world championship.
" This is my home track so I want to do well. I'll have a lot of family and friends at the track so it will be a busy weekend. The layout of this track is great. The way the track is designed the boats look like they are coming right at you. It is a really good venue for the spectators. If the weather conditions are good this can be a really fast track," said Stokes.
All professional classes will be contested at the Mid-America Summer Nationals including Top Fuel Hydro, the premier professional class where boats regularly joust with sub-five second runs and speeds in excess of 230 mph, and Top Alcohol Flatbottom, the funny cars of drag boat racing. Sportsman racers will also have the opportunity to vie for national titles and the prestigious IHBA national event trophy.
