Hydro-Prop and Trent Ling Communications Form Partnership for Unlimited Hydroplane Television Productions
(Lake Hamilton, Fla.) - The Budweiser Unlimited Hydroplane Series presented by Laughlin and Trent Ling of Trent Ling Communications today announced an agreement granting Ling limited production rights for all the Unlimited Hydroplane telecasts on ESPN2 for the 2002 season.
Ling will become the lead announcer on all ESPN2 telecasts and will assist the production company, Atlanta TeleProductions, in taking Hydro-Prop's television production to the next level. Ling Communications' agreement with Hydro-Prop ushers in a new era of television coverage for the sport.
Ling, who is now based in Orlando, Fla., grew up in Tri-Cities (Pasco), Washington, and began his professional coverage of the sport in 1981, at age 16, with KONA Radio. He has also toured the circuit as an independent media consultant. Ling is determined to produce the television show live in order to convey the essence of race day, and he expects fans to follow the circuit with renewed fervor and energy.
"I have loved the Unlimiteds since I was 11 years old," said Trent Ling, President of Ling Communications. "The Garbrechts have demonstrated a willingness to do whatever is necessary to promote and build the Unlimited series, and I felt that now was the appropriate opportunity to become involved. I am excited to put together a television package that captures the drama, beauty and passion of the sport. The Unlimiteds have a very loyal fan base that must be served, and there are many future fans simply waiting to be wooed."
Hydro-Prop and Ling Communications have already reached an agreement with well-known Unlimited Champion Chip Hanauer, who will join the broadcasts in 2002. "My first order of business was to invite Chip to join the broadcast team," continued Ling. "The Garbrechts were very enthusiastic about Chip, and to have him onboard is a tremendous boost for the telecasts and the Unlimited series. Chip is a no-nonsense living legend, and his insights and lifelong passion will be a great addition." Chip's resume includes: 61 victories, 7 National Championships, 11 Gold Cup victories; he is also an inductee into the Motorsports Hall of Fame.
"After a successful first year producing races for the Unlimited Hydroplane series, I am really looking forward to this season," said Ritch Vogan, President of Atlanta TeleProductions. "Trent will bring a plethora of new ideas to the series and couple that with Chip's unheralded knowledge and credentials will create a well respected and formidable team."
"Both Trent and Ritch have some great plans for the upcoming season," said Bart Garbrecht, CEO of Hydro-Prop. "Trent wants to give the telecasts a new look for the 2002 season incorporating a "live affect". We are totally behind him and his efforts and look forward to a great relationship. We also welcome Chip aboard, with his background and history with the sport, he will definitely be a huge asset as we take the sport to the next level."
Since the Garbrechts purchased the sport from the APBA in July of 2000, new life has been injected into the sport. Head to head competition was prevalent throughout last season and this season they will bring onboard the reporting talent to better convey the excitement of the sport to the ever burgeoning fanbase. It's going to be an exciting year on the water and on prime time ESPN2.
