(Bay City, Mich.) - Mike Seebold, Team Australian Gold, successfully defended his Dobson Heavy Haul Bay City River Roar title today at Bay City, Mich., the second race of the Laughlin Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour Presented by Bud Light.
Seebold, Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour's defending series champion, was able to maneuver his tunnel boat over the extremely rough waters of the Saginaw River for his 12th career Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour victory. The 40-lap Formula One final became a battle for survival as the boats bounced all over the water. Seebold was challenged throughout by his younger brother Tim, Terry Rinker, Max Toler and a handful of other drivers.
Greg Foster led the early part of the race until he was passed by Rinker on lap 12. Rinker held the lead for the next ten laps until he was passed by Mike Seebold. Seebold was able to hold off Rinker over the last few laps for the victory. Rinker subsequently finished second and Toler secured his second consecutive third place finish. Rounding out the top five was Jason Campbell and Garrett Armstrong.
* Seebold Brothers Defend Their Titles
Defending a title has become normal for Mike and Tim Seebold this season. Tim successfully defended his Laughlin River Days title earlier this season and Mike was able to duplicate that achievement today at Bay City. Both drivers will have additional opportunities to continue this feat as Mike is the defending champion at San Diego and Cypress Gardens and Tim is the defending champion at Windsor.
* Rinker Fast Again
Terry Rinker was once again one of the fastest boats on the water this weekend and came very close to winning his third career Formula One race. He was the fastest qualifier at Laughlin and finished second in qualifying at Bay City. He has finished in the top five in championship points for six consecutive seasons and with another strong finish at Bay City is again in the midst of the championship points battle.
* Toler Shines Again
Max Toler once again has proved that he is a force to be reckoned with on the 2001 Laughlin Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour Presented by Bud Light. The 2000 Formula One P.R.O.P. Rookie of the Year has secured two consecutive podium finishes to start the season. Last season, Toler secured his first career and only podium finish at San Diego. He currently has three career third place finishes and will look to add his first victory this season.
* Heats Produce Multiple Victors
The two qualification and two semi-final heats at the Bay City River Roar produced four different winners and is a testament to the growing competition on the Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour. Tim Seebold, Garrett Armstrong, Todd Beckman and Jason Campbell all produced heat victories this weekend. Seebold, Armstrong and Campbell's heat victories were their first this season, while Beckman has secured three heat wins.
* VP Fuels-Amsoil Championship Points Fund
With his second place finish today, Terry Rinker took the lead in the VP Fuels-Amsoil Championship Points Fund. Rinker leads the points fund with 378 points over Tim Seebold 367 points and Todd Beckman 359 points. Mike Seebold currently sits in fourth with 352 points and Greg Foster has 351 points.
The Dobson Heavy Haul Bay City River Roar Formula One race will be televised on ESPN2 on Saturday, July 14 at 6:30 PM (EDT).
Next stop on the 2001 Laughlin Formula One P.R.O.P. Tour Presented by Bud Light is the Great Northern River Roar at Saskatoon, Canada on July 21-22.
