Katherine Legge tests in Europe!
19th April 2006: Katherine Legge, who recorded the highest finish by a woman in Champ Car history earlier this month, is heading for Europe to take on a new challenge, in Powerboat P1! The British PKV Racing driver, fresh from her eighth place in the Long Beach Grand Prix, will test her skills in P1's top two boats, Wettpunkt and Sony, at Lido di Ostia, near Rome, on April 26th and 27th.
Legge stunned her male counterparts in the Champ Car season opener and insists she would have been sixth but for a spin that cost her vital time. Now she hopes to show the maestros of P1 that she has the natural instincts to produce competitive speeds on sea. She said, "I'm really looking forward to trying my hand in P1 powerboats. It's going to be interesting to compare them with my PKV Racing Champ Car."
Legge will join the leading P1 contenders at their pre-season test, which starts on April 25. The Powerboat P1 World Championship opens in Malta with a double-header Grand Prix on the weekend of May 13th/14th.
The Wettpunkt crew, led by Austria's Hannes Bohinc, will be defending their Evolution Class title against arch-rivals Sony and the rest of a strong Italian contingent.
