WERA Grand National Finals brings Motorcycle Roadracing Action to Road Atlanta
Braselton, Ga.: The future of motorcycle roadracing comes to Road Atlanta October 24th through 28th with the 2001 WERA Motorcycle Roadracing Grand National Finals.
After a full year of competitive racing, 56 champions will be crowned at the final event of the season. In the WERA National Sprint Finals, promising young riders including Mark Junge, Scott Harwell and Marietta resident Chris "Opie" Caylor will fight for the title on Road Atlanta's 2.54-mile course. The National Sprint Finals will take place on Sunday.
The Suzuki Cup will feature heat races on Saturday and the Suzuki Cup Finals on Sunday. Riders from all over the U.S. will be competing on their Suzuki motorcycles to earn championship titles and award checks from American Suzuki. The Suzuki Cup Finals will feature some of the closest, most exciting competition of the weekend.
For the fans that want to see more than just sprint racing, Friday will feature the WERA/GMD Computrack National Endurance season finale. The race lasts for four hours and includes pit stops and rider changes for each team. All season, Vesrah Suzuki and Team Pennzoil have been battling at the top of the field. The points chase is close and the championship will be decided at the Grand National Finals.
On Saturday, AMA/Buell Pro Thunder gets the green flag in a 14-lap sprint. The series features AMA Pro riders. Defending champion Jeff Nash will be defending his title against Mike Ciccotto and Tom Montano.
The WERA Sportsman Series finals are on Saturday and Sunday. This is a chance for riders from the six regions in which WERA races to face off against each other. Only the top riders in each region get an invitation to compete at the WERA Grand National Finals.
Advance tickets at reduced prices can be purchased at select local Suzuki Motorcycle Dealers. Fans can also enter to win a 2001 Suzuki SV-650S at the dealerships. The winner will be chosen on Sunday, October 28 at Road Atlanta.
Tickets will be sold at the gate, as well. Fans can buy a four-day ticket for all of the action. Three-day, two-day and Sunday only tickets are also available. Children 12 and under get in free and camping is available in Road Atlanta's infield.
