Voss/Huffman Tied for $100,000 THQ World Supercross GP Championship with Three Races Left

AURORA, Ill. (April 14, 2004) - Mach 1 Yamaha's Heath Voss, of Mico, Texas, and Moto XXX Honda's Damon Huffman are tied with 271 points in $100,000 THQ World Supercross GP championship race with only three races remaining, Dallas, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

Voss, national #28, has been the highest THQ World Supercross GP points finisher at three races this season. Huffman has been the highest THQ World Supercross GP points finisher at two races this season. According to FIM rules, if a season ends in a tie the rider with highest points finishes will be crowned the champion, currently Voss has that edge. Overall, Voss has been on the podium six times compared to Huffman's 10. This is one of the closest points races in supercross history. The champion will be decided in Las Vegas May 1.

"Because I want it bad. I bust my butt 52 weeks a year for this and $100,000 is a lot of money," said Voss on winning the championship. "I need to beat Damon at the next three races, for sure. I want to get a top three finish. I have never been able to do that, and this year, that has been my number one goal. This year, Mach 1 has given me everything possible to get on the podium and I have the potential to get up there, so that is what I really want out of these last three races."

"I want to continue getting the great starts that I have been getting," said Huffman. "Hopefully, now that we have the weekend off, I can let my ankle heal and get back to 100% for the last three races. I want to keep running up front and stay up there as long as possible. I want to win the title.

While Huffman has his eyes set on the THQ World Supercross GP championship, he's the top privateer on the tour. The CE Altman top privateer will receive a Nissan Frontier, $25,000 and a Weekend Warrior trailer provided by Giant RV.
