Rider killed in Qatar GP support race crash
The organisers of the season-opening Qatar MotoGP round have announced the passing of a rider competing in the Losail 600 Cup support event.
Tunisian rider Taoufik Gattouchi, 49, was involved in what a statement described as a "multi-rider incident" at Turn 3, causing the red flags to be brought out after 10 laps of the scheduled 15-lap race distance.
Gattouchi was then "immediately transported by air ambulance" to the Hamad hospital in nearby Doha, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
"The FIM, Losail Circuit Sports Club, QMMF, Dorna Sports and the entire MotoGP community wishes to pass on its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Gattouchi," the statement concluded.
