Path Valley opens Nnew era of Bike Racing March 29.
Spring Run, PA_ Two Wheel Promotions at the Path Valley Speedway Park will award track points for all motorcycle and four-wheeler races this season. Top points earners can qualify for trophies and cash awards at the annual November awards banquets.
The Franklin County clay quarter mile oval has scheduled 11 regular bike and quad races and, additionally, hosts the AMA Northeast Pro/Am National Championships for a total of 14 race dates this season. All but three of the bike events are AMA sanctioned, and the three "outlaw" races on April 12, June 7 and July 5 award double track points.
The first race is March 29 with gates open at 5 p.m. and it is a regular AMA sanctioned District 6 event. All of the outlaw bike and quad races are scheduled for dates that do not conflict with regularly scheduled AMA Region 6 races.
Seven of the events have the Central PA Legends Cars as special guests, on weeks that the Legends do not race on their regular Friday nights at Path Valley. Joining the AMA bikes and quads on June 21 and again August 16 is the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association for regional AHRMA racing.
Promoter Ken Geesey announces that, "Path Valley and Two Wheel Promotions are honored and proud to host the Northeast Nationals of the AMA for the second straight year. That sort of proves that we really do know what we're doing."
The Nationals, which are qualifiers for the Grand National Championships, include a short track race May 24, following the second annual bike rodeo and pig roast at noon. Then Sunday, May 25, is the National TT or Tourist Trophy race for bikes and quads starting at noon, and the rain date for both events is Labor Day Monday. The third leg of the 2003 Nationals is the National Half-Mile and Two Wheel Promotions will host that event at Williams Grove on June 8 this year with gates open at 10 a.m.
"With the addition of a few so-called outlaw races, we will have enough points events for bikes and quads to honor our top riders at the annual banquet this year, and that's something they richly deserve," Geesey explained. An added but unplanned bonus is that the four-wheelers that race with karts Saturday afternoons will be able to race again Saturday nights with the AMA.
