Renner Spoils Bartram's Vans Triple Crown Sweep

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (October 26, 2002)  -- The Vans Championship of Freestyle Motocross presented by Xbox and Mountain Dew, the final round of the Vans Triple Crown featured the top freestyle motocross riders in the country including "Mad Mike" Jones, Kenny Bartram, Drake McElroy, Tommy Clowers and more.  The Savvis Center in St. Louis hosted the weekend's action where Bartram went for the first ever sweep of the Vans Triple Crown.  After winning the first two competitions, Bartram needed wins on both nights to complete the sweep.  Drake McElroy, Ronnie Renner, Adam Jones and the rest of the Vans field were standing in the way of the sweep.         Mad Mike Jones started off Friday night's action as the competition came down to the wire.  Drake McElroy was the nights number one qualifier, becoming the only rider left to take the crown away from Bartram.  After knocking Ronnie Renner out of the Vans Hot Seat, Bartram could only sit and watch as McElroy put together his final run.  Inconsistency and over jumping plagued McElroy in the finals and allowed Bartram to walk away with the win, coming one step closer to taking home the Vans Triple Crown Championship and a brand new Ford FX4.   Saturday night came down to the final run, with Bartram only having to ride in the event to secure the overall Vans Triple Crown Championship, the race for second place took center stage.  Renner and McElroy battled, separated by only a point for second place.  Renner was able to over take the Vans Hot Seat from Bartram putting the pressure on McElroy.  McElroy needed to put a flawless run together to beat Renner.  With anxious eyes, Renner watched as McElroy threw his signature "Dead Body" and a "No-Footed Nac-Stalefish to Saran" combo, but in the end Renner's 92.3 was enough to keep the Vans Hot Seat and Saturday night's win at the third round of the Vans Triple Crown.    Kenny Bartram was crowned the Vans Triple Crown Champion, winning the $10,000 points fund and a brand new Ford FX4.  Winning five of the six competitions, with sweeps in Indianapolis and Tacoma, Bartram was crowned Vans Triple Crown Champion.    "I didn't have my best run tonight, I threw in the Sterilizer at the end of the run to try and make up for it.  I am stoked about the overall win, I have been waiting for this for a while, said Bartram after Saturday's final run.   Weekend Results Top Three Friday and Saturday nights: <pre>  FRIDAY Kenny Bartram              92.2 Ronnie Renner              92.0 Drake McElroy              91.9   SATURDAY                               Ronnie Renner              92.3 Drake McElroy              92.2 Kenny Bartram              92.1     The Next stop on the IFMA tour lands in Portland, OR at the Memorial Coliseum, November 8-9.    -cce-
