Current IFMA Champion and past IFMA Champion split in Providence.
Bartram and Miller each take a victory.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 1, 2003) -- Clear Channel Entertainment -- Motor Sports and IFMA Freestyle Motocross Presented by XM Satellite Radio returned to the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence to showcase the worlds best freestyle motocross talent. One week after the night club tragedy in West Warwick, R.I., the IFMA, Clear Channel Entertainment and the Dunkin' Donuts Center donated a portion of the proceeds to help the victims and families of those affected by this tragedy during a candle light vigil following Saturday night's competition.
Kenny Bartram continues to prove why he was crowned 2002 IFMA Champion. Bartram took his 15th win in this 2003 IFMA season, winning Friday night competition, narrowly edging out Drake McElroy and Beau Bamburg. McElroy scored a 93.4 as the night's first rider, earning the number one qualifying spot over the rest of the field. Bartram qualified second followed by Matt Buyten and Beau Bamburg respectively. After gaining the number one qualifying spot, McElroy would only ride again as the nights final competitor. Bartram scored a 93.2 and a standing ovation from the crowd after his final run, leaving only McElroy to follow. Bartram escaped by the narrowest of margins, beating McElroy's score of 93.1.
"That was one of the best runs I have had in the last couple of years," said Kenny Bartram after winning Friday night.
Bartram could not put it together again on Saturday night. Misfiring on a few tricks, getting his feet hung up on a bar-hop and bar checking a no-handed-lander cost valuable points against his run. Dustin Miller pulled out a one-handed-Indian-air to rock-solid that brought the crowd and riders to their feet. Miller's score of a 92.6 was enough to hold off Drake McElroy, Adam Jones and finally Kenny Bartram. Nate Adams' finished in second followed by Bartram, Beau Bamburg and Adam Jones to round out the top five.
"I new it was over when I got my feet caught on my handle bars. Dustin pulled out some new stuff and he deserved the win tonight," said Kenny Bartram after his final run Saturday night.
