Biloxi, MS., (March 22, 2003) -- Biloxi, Mississippi is a beautiful place for the International Freestyle Motocross Association. This weekend the IFMA was privileged to be at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum which sits directly across the street from the Gulf of Mexico.
Friday - It looked as if Jake Windham was going to take his first IFMA win of the year until Dustin Miller came along. Windham qualified in the 3rd spot and sat on the Hot Seat with a run that had zero mistakes. Windham has increased the level of difficulty and his variation has gotten much better this year proving that even motocrossers can get better with age. But the hard truth of the International Freestyle Motocross Association is that all the riders are stepping it up and proving that this tour is about being able to do ALL tricks. If you can't do them ALL you can't take home the dough. Dustin Miller is a perfect example. Miller and Windham both had perfect runs, with Miller edging Windham 93.0 to 92.5. Matt Buyten qualified 2nd and finished the night .2 behind Windham for 3rd. "Bubbs" Brian Foster took 5th after coming off his win in South Carolina last weekend. You can tell he has more confidence than ever. Kenny Bartram went down in the first round doing a Running Man Nothing Can. He was able to walk off the floor after a considerable amount of cobweb cleaning. He feels that he pulled something in his sternum leaving him with little strength to hold his bike. Many of the riders say they have had similar injuries racing and it generally can take a couple of weeks to heal completely. Not good news for Bartram the current IFMA points leader.
Saturday - Ronnie Renner looked like his old self tonight after a poor showing last night. It must have been all the fine ladies in the audience that gave him the extra incentive. He mentioned that there were a lot of them in the stands cheering for his winning run. Dustin Miller came up 10th of a point short of Renner's 93.6 to take the lead. The judges thought Ronnie had a little more variety tonight than Dustin. Matt Buyten threw down a stellar run finishing third after he went for the Cliff Hanger to No Handed Lander but had to grab the bars at the last second. Without that mistake he would have had a chance at the win. Jake Windham sat on the Hot Seat for a little while with his 92.9 score. Kenny Bartram tried to ride in the first qualifier and had to pull off after landing from the big double, too much pain to hold on to the bars. He had a hard get-off last night and is still feeling it.
Dustin Miller - 93.0
Jake Windham - 92.5
Matt Buyten - 92.3
Ronnie Renner - 93.6
Dustin Miller - 93.5
Matt Buyten - 93.1
IFMA Freestyle Motocross will make its next stop in Reno, Nevada and Minneapolis, Minnesota.
