Wilkes-Barre Arenacross Lives Up to Expectations
No Major Moves in the Points Standings

(Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) February 29, 2004 - Arenacross moved one step closer to the final round next month in Tacoma, Wash. On a track made for tight, bar-banging racing, no one rider was able to put himself into the driver seat heading into the final two rounds.

On Friday, Jim Chester (Lenoir, N.C.) looked to be well on his way to great weekend after finishing first and second in the 125cc and 250cc main events, respectively. Current points leader Brian Stone (Kansas City, Mo.) rebounded from his fourth place finish in the 125cc main and finished on top of the podium in the 250cc main.

The racing on Saturday night provided a great amount of excitement for the sold out Wachovia Arena. In the 125cc main, Mike Katin (East Sparta, Ohio) had a great start after taking the hole shot. However, the man on the move was Nick Metcalf (Ulysses, Kan.) who had to battle back from a slow start. After half the race had passed, Metcalf caught up to Katin in the whoops section and took over the lead. Katin then battled back and retook the lead before losing it for good to Metcalf on the next lap. Charley Bogard (Grand Prairie, Tex.), who was one of the fastest through the whoops section along with Metcalf, came from out of nowhere and wound up passing Katin for second place.

In the 250cc main, the race started out almost the same with Katin taking the hole shot, while being followed closely by Stone. Metcalf and Bogard then came back again with their strong riding through the whoops. Metcalf passed Katin half way through the race and started to pull away until his clutch blew out, taking him out of the race. Bogard then caught Katin and was able to pull away for the victory.
