A sizzling summer at Europe's fastest race circuit.
Rockingham is looking forward to a full summer of top class British motorsport with premier motor racing and British Championship events taking place at the Corby, Northamptonshire track in every month from May through to September.
Following the season opening ASCAR race meeting on the oval on Sunday 4th May, the action will move to the infield road courses for the Classic Rock historic and sports car meeting run in conjunction with the MG Car Club in 24/25 May. In addition to running 16 races over the weekend for sports cars including MGs, Healeys, Morgans, TRs, Jaguars and the MG K-Sports racers, the event will also host the Porsche Club GB among clubs displaying sports cars from around the world.
More ASCAR action is assured on June 8, followed by the first-ever rounds of the British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham on June 21/22. After receiving a request from Croft, Rockingham and TOCA have agreed to swap the BTCC rounds at the two circuits in June and July. Rockingham will now host rounds 10 and 11, while Croft will host the next two rounds of the 2003 series on July 12/13.
"Running our BTCC round in June is a better calendar slot for us in avoiding clashes with nearby events, while the later date at Croft also aids them in avoiding calendar issues" said Rockingham CEO Ashley Pover. "We're delighted as a top-class venue, to host one of Britain's most prestigious race series. We're looking forward to making it a real weekend to remember. Touring Cars are a great spectacle and as always Rockingham race fans will be able to watch all the action from their seats in the stadium."
The high-speed action will continue into July, as Rockingham hosts the British Superbike Championship on July 5/6. The series will make its third visit to the Northamptonshire track and local hero Michael Rutter will no doubt be keen to build on his record of having so far won three of the four BSB races at the track!
Following the next instalment of ASCAR action on July 27th, the British Formula Three and GT Championships come to Rockingham on August 2/3 for what is always regarded as one of their most exciting championship rounds of the season. Further ASCAR action will round off the summer on August 24 and September 28, making it Rockingham's busiest ever championship season.
"With five ASCAR events to complement the BTCC, BSB, F3 and GT championships, Rockingham is hosting every premier British racing series this summer," said Pover. "There is certainly something for everyone."
