Yesterday Matt Kuhne had his first taste of one of the many tracks he will be competing at, in the British Championship. Testing yesterday was held at Mallory Park; (round 2 of the British Championship). Matt said: so far this has been the most positive test I have had yet. After recovering from a crash in a Spanish test two and a bit weeks ago, Matt was fired up and ready for this test. The test at Mallory was a very big positive for me,. "The test at Mallory today was good. It's good to get back on a bike again; I am feeling much better now after hurting my shoulder at the Spain test. It was also great that the weather held out for me. All last week was snowing so no testing was possible.
I am really happy with my race bike; this was the first time I had ridden the bike (Race Bike). I was impressed with the performance and suspension. I now really know how much more professional the teams are . I would have loved to use the UK bike when I was racing in Australia last season, its awesome. The team are doing a great job and we are working together extremely well. Also My sponsor Oxtar Boots have given me their latest boots and they are awesome as well. I have so much more movement and they are so comfortable, thanks Oxtar!!
Mallory was a really big positive for the team today. I am feeling really comfortable on the bike and really like the Mallory circuit. The track has a good layout and suits my style of riding, I was able to adjust very quickly. Even though today the track condition wasn't the best my lap times were encouraging for my first visit . The mixture of the cold weather, sand completely around the track caused from a sidecar dropping oil wasn't the best combination for traction. But overall it gave me some first hand knowledge about the circuit.. Matt will be leaving for another test this Sunday at Donington Park Raceway. The test will have a majority of the riders present that are competing in the British Championship. It will be a good benchmark test with the other riders to see how I compare with the riders this year.."I honestly think that this year will be the best year yet. I have a lot to learn, a lot of circuits, people to meet and a lot to gain. I am feeling the best I've every felt in my whole career, I'm physically fit, healthy and mentally I feel the best ever. I would really like to thank all the people who have given me the opportunity to be here; especially my major sponsor for the year Hammercrete. I will have you updated on my test at Donington the day after".
PS: Whilst at Mallory Park Raceway, I met up with Chris Vermulen, we had a good long talk . I also met up with Brendan Roberts, an Australian rider that I went to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) with. It was great to talk to some other aussies and I will be seeing a lot of Brendan as he also is competing in the BSB Championship rounds.
