Hobbs Racing rider Dennis Hobbs lost vital ground in the THINK! British Superbike Cup after the weather conditions played havoc with the Scott Leathers backed rider at a damp and dismal Knockhill yesterday.

With torrential rain washing out virtually all Superbike qualifying on Saturday, the 22 year old from Guisborough posted fastest time out of all the 'Privateers' during the small window of opportunity in the dry to start both of Sunday's races from tenth on the grid.

After a cloudburst on Sunday morning, Hobbs took to the grid in drying conditions for race one and proceeded to run with the leaders for the opening laps. Ahead of the likes of series leader John Reynolds (Rizla Suzuki) and Honda's Michael Rutter, Hobbs was leading yellow plate rider until an uncharacteristic mistake saw him slide off at the low speed Taylor's Hairpin before remounting and finishing in 14th place overall and 5th in class.

Undeterred, race two was run in similar conditions but problems with wet tyres on a drying track, it meant that grip was at a premium and as a result, Hobbs spun and slithered his way to 15th overall and 4th in class.

The nett result of his trophyless weekend meant he slipped to third in the standings, just a single point behind second placed Jon Kirkham but now 49 points behind series leader James Ellison with ten races left:

"I was comfortable in race one when the front end let go for no reason and put me in the gravel and then in race two, it was just spinning up everywhere as soon as I tried to put the power down" said Dennis. "We'll put this behind us now and move on to Mallory and hope for some better weather after the last two wet weekends which haven't been particularly kind to us."
