BURNS RETURNS TO SUPERSPORT ACTION AT MONDELLO
Chris Burns will be back chasing points in the British Supersport Championship this weekend as he returns to the fold after six weeks out of action.
The Newcastle rider will be back on board the AIM Racing Yamaha R6 as the series makes its annual trip to Mondello Park in Ireland, after being sidelined for three rounds with a broken foot.
Burns, 25, was left with two smashed metatarsals and a break to the ball of his foot after crashing during first qualifying at Donington Park early last month
His injuries were sustained when the bike landed on his foot, forcing Steve Plater to step in for both the Thruxton and Oulton Park rounds.
But the Geordie returns this weekend, and is determined to make up for lost time. "Being sidelined for three races so early in the season was the worst thing that could have happened, and I was absolutely gutted," he said.
"We made a decent start at Brands and I have always felt the bike was capable of much more. I've said from the start that I think it is one of the fastest bikes on the grid, and we were running very well at Donington before the crash.
"I've spent six weeks at home getting myself better, and it has been so frustrating. There really is nothing worse than sitting at home watching someone else out on your bike, when all you want to do is ride it yourself, so I am looking forward to getting back out there and showing everyone else what I can do."
