Another Brookes whitewash

Josh Brookes (Joe Rocket Honda CBR600) completed an imperious weekend's work with victory in the third and final Australian Supersport Championship race at Philip Island today.

Brookes' 3.990sec victory over teammate Adam Fergusson -- the third consecutive 1-2 for the pair -- has given him the best start possible in a quest for a second Australian Supersport title.

Brookes now sits on a perfect 76pts after round one of seven, ahead of defending champion Fergusson (66), Jason O'Halloran (Red Rocket CBR600RR, 54), Josh Waters (Kawasaki Motors ZX-6RR, 45) and former Australian 250 Production champion Jordan Coote (Yamaha GYTR YZF-R6, 43).

After early morning showers lashed the 4.448km grand prix circuit, the final Supersport race was declared "wet", but after a 15-minute delay to clean up an unrelated oil spill on Turn One, a majority of the 30-strong field started on 'dry' tyres.

However, that didn't seem to upset the ensemble cast too much, and Brookes and Fergusson were straight on the case at the start of the 10-lapper - with Team Yamaha's Robbie Baird (YZF-R6) also adding to the firepower.

After an intense few laps, Baird's challenge eventually faded, but he still had plenty to spare over surprise packet Jarradd Curran (MSC Products YZF-R6) at the chequered flag. Coote was fifth from a Jeremy Crowe (Rapid Bikes Magazine YZF-R6) and the slow-starting duo of O'Halloran and fellow teenager Waters.
