A scholarship has been created in the name of the late Reece Bancell to provide encouragement and assistance for those riders embarking on a road racing career.

To be simply called the Reece Bancell Scholarship, it will be awarded to a Superstock (C& D-grade) rider at the end of each Australian championship season, who will then be provided with a one-year support package to compete in the following year's Supersport title. The scholarship has been instigated at the behest of the Bancell family.

Open to riders under the age of 21, scholarship applicants will be assessed on a number of criteria, including professional attitude; ability, presentation; dedication and commitment; and general attitude. The assessment panel will be chaired by the Bancell family, and includes representatives from three arms of the motorcycling community -- industry, media and Motorcycling Australia.

The inaugural winner of the Reece Bancell Scholarship will be announced at the year-end presentation night for this year's Shell Advance Australian Superbike Championship on September 12.
