Dakar Rally programme One-two-three victory for Volkswagen in the Silk Way Rally
The Volkswagen factory team successfully concluded its final competitive event with the Race Touareg 2 in preparation for the 2010 Dakar Rally in January: In the Silk Way Rally, following the route of the legendary Silk Road through Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, the Volkswagen factory drivers Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (E/E) won from their team mates Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/ZA) and "Dakar" winners Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (ZA/D). The fourth Volkswagen duo Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk retired from the lead on the penultimate stage after rolling. All eight stage wins on the demanding event went to Volkswagen.
British Formula 3 Championship Daniel Ricciardo is 2009 British Formula 3 Champion
Volkswagen driver Daniel Ricciardo won the British F3 Championship at the penultimate round of the season in Portimao after taking maximum points in the first race and finishing seventh in the second race. The 20-year old is only the third Australian to take the Formula 3 crown in Great Britain. As a result Volkswagen achieved the feat of winning the title in the year of its return to the British Formula 3 Championship. Rene Rast keeps title race alive with fifth victory of the season
Volkswagen junior Rene Rast celebrated his fifth victory in the Porsche Supercup 2009 at Monza. The racer from the Steyerberg took the lead from pole position in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and defended his lead to the chequered flag which he took 6.2 seconds ahead of defending champion and championship leader Jeroen Bleekemolen. Rast keeps the title battle alive with his convincing victory.

Wins for Jake Thompson and Devin Cates
Double-header in New Jersey: The 26 drivers contesting the Jetta TDI Cup had to complete two races around the New Jersey Motorsport Park. Jake Thompson celebrated his second victory of the season in the first race. The Canadian only took the lead on the final lap of the race. In the second race Devin Cates took his maiden victory, he is the sixth driver in the 'star of tomorrow' series to score a victory during the 2009 season. Timmy Megenbier leads the championship by 39 points with just one race to run. At the finale at Road Atlanta he only needs to finish 15th to clinch the title.
Swedish Touring Car Championship
Patrick Olsson second in Scirocco
The Volkswagen team celebrated its best result to date with the Biogas Scirocco at the penultimate Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) race weekend of the season. Patrick Olsson finished eighth in his Biogas Scirocco in the first race at Mantorp Park. As a result, he started the second race from pole position and took second place. Team mate Fredrik Ekblom was running in sixth position during the first race before being involved in an accident when overtaking and was unable to finish the race. He started the second race from last position and made 14 overtaking manoeuvres on his way to fifth place.
Swedish Junior Touring Car Championship
Difficult weekend for Volkswagen drivers
The four Volkswagen Golf drivers contesting the Swedish Junior Touring Car Championship were not satisfied after the penultimate race weekend at Knutstorp. Niclas Olsson had a chance of scoring important championship points but made a mistake. He went away empty handed from the first race and only scored two points in the second race. As a result he is only in fifth place overall eight points behind the leader going into the finale. Christoffer Graff, who finished tenth and 16th at Knutstorp, is eighth in the standings 22 points behind the leader.
