SUCCESSES AT SPA
Spa, Belgium -- 28 July 2007: T-Sport rounded off a successful weekend at Spa today with another National Class victory for Sergio Perez, which follows his win yesterday. Rodolfo Gonzalez took a good fifth place in yesterday's race but lost out in the rain today and had to settle for tenth.
Rodolfo didn't manage to hook up a tow in first qualifying, which can be worth half a second around Spa. He took eighth place on the grid but the team was confident he would have good race pace. Sergio meanwhile put in a stunning performance; the team bet him he couldn't get into the 15s and he duly delivered a 15.8! Salman Al Khalifa had a good qualifying session, taking fifth, and running very close to Michael Meadows.
The second qualifying session saw Rodolfo deliver a very strong performance which was rewarded with sixth place. Sergio went quicker again with a 15.6, taking his second pole position of the weekend and Salman took fifth.
Race one took place on Saturday evening. Sergio got a fantastic start, shooting up to seventh place overall but remembered to play the long game and let some battling Championship Class runners though. He added the fastest lap and race victory to his pole position, finishing off a fruitful day. Rodolfo also had a good start, avoiding the first lap melee and getting up to fourth place. A mistake at Pouhon cost him a couple of positions but he recovered and crossed the line in fifth position. Salman took fifth place after a good, solid performance, clearly showing he has made progress since Brands Hatch.
The rain arrived at Spa on Saturday morning so it was decided that race two would start behind the safety car. Unfortunately conditions didn't improve and only three racing laps were completed. Rodolfo had an off at Pouhon which put him back to 10th and with no real racing going on he had no opportunity to regain the places he lost. Sergio kept a cool head and cruised round to take another win whilst Salman had a bit of a pirouette with one of the Mansells, finishing in sixth place.
"I think all the drivers made good improvements this weekend," said Team Principal, Russell Eacott. "Roldofo's qualifying pace deserves a mention in particular, Sergio had two good results and Salman has made great progress since Brands."
T-Sport is back out on track in two weeks' time at Silverstone for rounds 15 and 16 of the British F3 International Series.
