SPECTACULAR RACING BY CONWAY IN SPA

Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium -- 29 July 06: Mike Conway showed what can be done in 24 laps of Spa by driving from the back of the field to finish second and fourth in the latest rounds of the British F3 International Series.

In the formation lap of race one, half the seven kilometre circuit was under rain and Conway made a gutsy decision to change from dry tyres. He overcame the resulting fifty-second set-back in a nail-biting excursion on wet tyres, cutting through the opposition from 20th to finish fourth.

"We knew it was going to be tricky with the conditions changing and were ready for an exciting race. In the warm-up lap I made the decision to come in for wet tyres but the officials kept the red light on for 30 seconds even though the race had started." he said. "But it came good when the rain came down; we were gaining 10 seconds a lap and finished eight seconds behind the leader."

In the second race Conway drove to another astounding recovery: "Today's race was tough, I was pushed off on the fourth corner and rejoined pretty much stone-last," he explained. "But the car was really hooked up and it's exceptionally good for overtaking here. I was overtaking a couple of guys a lap, there were some really close manoeuvres and everyone was driving fair. It's a shame the brakes faded at the end of the race, as I was ready to close the gap for first, but we've extended the championship lead further so I'm happy."

The Raikkonen Robertson Racing driver next races at the prestigious Zandvoort Ultimate Masters of F3 in Holland next weekend, which sees 43 of the best British and Euroseries F3 drivers vying to qualify for Sunday's 45-minute race.
