Fourth podium finish
Heading into this weekend I was fairly confident of getting a good result here at Snetterton. During testing on Friday my feeling was confirmed as I was able to set 3rd fastest time.
Qualifying one was very much a case of being patient. There was a lot of traffic out on track, which made it very difficult to get a free lap. Towards the end of the session I managed to get two clear laps in which I was able to set the 4th time, however the following lap I was on the way to pole position. Unfortunately in the last corner I had to overtake two cars and therefore the lap was ruined.
In qualifying two it was once again hard to get a clear lap, because of the short and very fast track. I managed to put in one good lap, which gave me 3rd place on the grid for race two. Overall I was quite happy with my qualifyings and confident for the races.
My start in the first race was good and I was able to hold 4th place after the first lap. On lap five there was a big accident and the safety car had to be brought out. I believe to be speaking for all the drivers when I say, that I am very happy that Bruno (Senna) escaped his crash unhurt. At the restart I came very close to my team mate Christian Bakkerud and heading into turn two I lost down force under braking and hit the rear of his car which ended both our races. I'm very sorry, for this mistake of mine as it cost Christian, the team and myself valuable points. Once more my apologies go to Christian, as he was at no fault in this incident.
In the second race I had a good start again, which enabled me to hold my 3rd position comfortably. During the first laps it was a fairly calm race, however on lap ten the safety car came out for a minor incident. This brought a lot of excitement into the race at the restart. I was attacking the drivers in front of me as well as defending heavily against the driver behind me. This was some very close but fair racing which we all enjoyed. From then on I managed to get a small gap to the driver behind me, but unfortunately I was not able to match the pace of the first two. Therefore I settled for my 4th podium finish of the season.
I would like to thank my Carlin team and especially my engineer Matt Callaghan for giving me a great car again this weekend, and I'm now looking forward to racing at Spa-Franchorchamps in two weeks time.
