NEWGARDEN RESUMES BRITISH FORMULA FORD TITLE CHASE AT SILVERSTONE
American enters tripleheader event sitting second in the championship standings
SILVERSTONE, ENGLAND (August 11, 2009) -- Rising junior formula car talent Josef Newgarden travels to the home of British motorsports this weekend (August 15-16) for Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, which are taking place at the Silverstone Circuit. While the tripleheader will mark the first series visit by the talented American to the high-speed road course, Newgarden enters the event as one of the drivers expected to challenge for top honors in all three races.
For Newgarden, the sixth event for the British Formula Ford series marks the end of a planned summer break, and the perfect opportunity to return to the cockpit of his No. 21 Robo-Pong/Racer of Tomorrow Ltd/Joe Tandy Racing Mygale SJ08 Premier Power car. While the 18 year-old enjoyed his visit with friends and family in the U.S.A. during the recent series downtime, he is anxious to resume his pursuit of the 2009 MSA British Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain title.
Newgarden thus far has enjoyed a highly successful first full season of racing in Europe. The Joe Tandy Racing rookie has visited victory lane in all but one of the British Formula Ford events, winning five races en route to second position in the current championship standings. The American additionally added two Formula Palmer Audi wins to his 2009 race resume, when he took part in a one-off event earlier in the year at Brands Hatch.
"I'm looking forward to the action resuming in the British Formula Ford series this weekend," commented Newgarden. "I'm really excited to compete at Silverstone, it's a great track with a lot of heritage. I think the high-speed nature of the international circuit really suits my driving style and now that we've completed 15 of the 25 races, I think I've got a pretty good gauge on the competition! I'm confident, challenging for wins in all three races and eliminating any gap to the championship leader is a realistic goal."
The MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain tripleheader at the historic Silverstone Circuit commences on Friday (August 14) with free practice. One day later, the lone qualifying session will take place in the morning, prior to Round 16 getting underway after the lunch break. Rounds 16 and 17 of the 25-race series will take place on Sunday (August 16).
