GFH driver set to tackle home of the British Grand Prix
After another podium finish in Belgium last month, Bahrain's number one F3 driver Hamad Al Fardan is looking forward to a return to the UK when he competes in the Unipart F3/GT Festival, rounds 15 and 16 of the Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series at Silverstone this weekend (August 11/12).
This season has been very much a learning year for the young Bahraini as he gets to grip with the top UK circuits and his Dallara Formula 3 car. Impressive race performances mean the Gulf Finance House (GFH) backed driver is currently 5th in the National Class championship standings, but with just 34 points separating third to fifth places and eight races of the season remaining, there is everything still to play for.
The on-form Bahraini heads to Silverstone's International 2.249 mile circuit still looking for his first British F3 victory but confident of a good performance: "Silverstone is going to be another new experience for me but I have done some testing at the circuit earlier this year. I cannot wait to race, it is a great circuit to drive and I will do my best. It would be great to win my first F3 race this weekend but the most important thing is to get good points and move up in the championship."
The British F3 National Class is run for Formula 3 cars manufactured from 2002 - 2004 and is perfect for drivers to learn the car and the circuits before stepping up the following season to the Championship Class. The class has a tradition of being hotly contested and 2007 has proven to be one of the best title races for many years. Mexico's Sergio Perez and China's Cheng Cong Fu have dominated the class, with 11 wins between them, but with six podium finishes to his credit Al Fardan is hot on their heels.
