Oulton Park BF3: Collard extends championship lead with two wins

Carlin's Ricky Collard extended his championship lead to 37 points from second-placed Thomas Randle after winning two of the three races of Oulton Park's British F3 weekend.

Ricky Collard, Carlin

In Saturday's race, Collard maintained his lead at the start, while teammate Colton Herta lost a position to championship contender Randle.

The top three remained within a second of each other but Collard had the race under control before it was red-flagged.

Carlin's Ameya Vaidyanathan, having dropped from sixth to 10th behind fast-starting Sisa Ngebulana, collided with Ngebulana heading into Cascades, his car shooting up into the air.

Fortunately, Vaidyanathan came out unscathed, with the South African picking up four penalty points for his role in the incident.

The race would not be restarted, handing the win to Collard, with Randle second and Herta third.

Double R Racing's Matheus Leist leapfrogged Sean Walkinshaw Racing's Jan Jonck to finish fourth as the Danish driver completed the top five.

Sowery takes win after penalty to Ahmed

With no race on Sunday, the teams were back to competition on Monday morning for the final two races of the fourth round of the championship.

Ahmed started on pole in Race 2, taking advantage of a reverse-grid formation. But the British driver had to fight with Lanan's Toby Sowery to keep his lead.

The two made contact on Lap 2 when Sowery went for a move on the Lakeside straight and was blocked.

That resulted in a brief moment in the air for Sowery - although he did manage to continue without picking up significant damage.

Ahmed went on to win on the road, only to be handed a six-second time penalty for the clash. That demoted him to second, behind Sowery, with Double R's Enzo Bortoleto completing the podium.

The Brazilian's teammate Leist finished fourth, ahead of Jonck, with Herta sixth, Randle seventh and Collard eighth.

Collard doubles up

For the final race of the Oulton Park weekend, Collard was on pole by virtue of having set the fastest laptime in Race 2, starting alongside teammate Herta.

And the start was very similar to Race 1 as Collard maintained his lead but Herta lost out to Randle.

The top three broke away from the rest of the field and, while Randle started to close in on Collard, the Carlin driver had enough of a buffer to take his second win of the weekend.

Randle settled for second ahead of Herta as Ahmed and Leist battled for fourth, with the British driver hanging on in the end.

Collard leads the standings with 269 points, with Randle second on 232 and Leist third on 221.
