FRANKIE AT THE "AUTODROMO NAZIONALE IN MONZA"
As the most anticipated race weekend of the year comes to a close at Monza, Frankie did his country proud again with 2 podium finishes. Monza marks the second visit abroad for the British Formula 3 championship this year, racing on the fastest circuit in the world where the young racers fight at over 190 km/hr average speed. The Autodromo Nazionale di Monda is also the host for traditional Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix, a first for Frankie.
It was his first visit to the circuit and his lack of experience there was an enormous disadvantage. Despite the limited amount of practise, the Chinese ace was able to qualify two second places in the National Class, starting in front of many 'A' class cars. Both races ended with Frankie in second place for the National class and with an impressive overall 10th in the second race. This was an enormous performance by the Chinese with the cars in the Championship Class being much more powerful than National Class cars.
Frankie was able to score points and keep a close gap with his championship rival Perez, despite losing the lead in the National class.
Frankie: "I'm really happy of my results, it was my first visit to Monza and it was just an amazing as I would have expected. The team worked very hard in the last weeks and we were able to find some new set up solutions. I did a great job in both races, only due to a mistake for my inexperience I've lost the championship lead but it can be acceptable in a Formula 1 circuit where I have no experience of. For sure with more practise I would be have been faster. I'm quite confident for the next race; Brands Hatch is my favourite circuit and I am going to the race with high hopes."
The next round of the British F3 will be held in Brands Hatch on 14-15th July
