SALVADOR DURAN IS ALREADY IN IRELAND TO FIGHT FOR THE TITLE
NAAS, Irlanda (September 15, 2005).- British Formula Three National Class points leader Salvador Duran headed to Ireland Thursday morning, where he will attempt to secure the Series' title this weekend, with four races to go, a two-race event will be held at Mondello Park International circuit (19 and 20), and the other at Silverstone International circuit, in England (21 and 22).
Mondello Park is located in Kildare County, 50 Km. from Dublin's airport, and it is 3.502-Km. length. Regarding the Irish racetrack, Duran said: "Mondello is similar to Knockhill, Scotland, this year I was winning when the steering broke, but we were fast there. Thus, I think we must do well this weekend."
"I don't know the track, I've just seen it in maps. In fact, I have been looking for it in videogames, but it's not available since it is a short track. There, you have to work even harder. It's a very slow circuit and I think the team has a good setup; therefore, from that point of view we're going to do well. It is not allowed to test there before the event; thus, I'm going to take a walk on the track," he said.
"If possible, I would like to give the championship to my country during the Mexican Independence month and I thank my sponsors: Telmex, Corona, Sun, AMD, Ericsson, Inter Proteccion, SPEED, Pole Position and Prodigy Infinitum for their support. Without them, I would not have the opportunity to go through this experience that helps me grow in my professional career as a driver," Mexico City native said.
"To secure the championship I need to win. I need to finish ahead to Barton Mawer, who is second in the ranks (255-224) in the two races, but we are truly going to take the victories. I feel glad that things are coming together. I know the championship is important to Telmex Racing and I want to give the title to them as soon as possible. By winning it now, it would give me the time to commence planning next year and to focus on A1 GP," he said.
On Sunday, September 18, Salvador "Chava" Duran will have the opportunity to watch on the track one of his rivals in the A1 Grand Prix Series, during the first public demonstration of the A1 Team Ireland's A1 Grand Prix car at Mondello Park, as part of The Failte Ireland International Race Weekend, just one week before the first ever A1 Grand Prix Nations Cup race on Sunday, September 25 at Brands Hatch, in Kent, England.
